Tanzania's Travel Tips

Tanzania Security: Tanzania is a safe country and beautiful.
Population: 40,400,000 million

Religion: Christianity 45%  predominant religion.
Language: Swahili & English are widely spoken languages.

Food: The quality and variety of food available on safari will be a pleasant surprise for you. Most lodges serve meals in buffet style with food prepared according to western tastes. Include some local cuisine too! If you are taking a camping safari, fresh meat and produce will be prepared at the highest standards, by our chefs.

Water: Drink only boiled or bottled water, which is sold everywhere. On treks and safaris, it is best to carry sufficient bottled water.
Time: 3 hrs + GMT
Electricity: 230V, bring a universal adaptor. A torch (flashlight) or headlamp may be needed incase of a power failure.

Climate: June and October, dry and hot with cool nights\ mornings. November to mid December, short rains. March to May, long rains. The coastal strip is hot and humid all year round.

Clothes: Pack lightweight, washable clothes (no dry-clean), and as sweater for early morning game drives. Long sleeves and trousers in light colored fabrics will help discourage insect bites.

Shopping:
The tourist areas and hotels sell a wide range of souvenirs, jewelry, Tanzanite and trinkets. Travel with Children: You can take children with you. Although, canned baby foods, powdered milk and disposable nappies (diapers) may not be available outside major towns. Pack enough diapers for your stay.

Airports: Tanzania has three international airports, Dar Es Salaam International Airport(DAR) also known as Julius Nyerere International Airport, Kilimanjaro International Airport(KIA) and Zanzibar International Airport(ZNZ). If your safari starts in northern Tanzania, book airlines whose arrivals & departures are at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). It takes 45 minutes to drive from (JRO) to Arusha town. Flights such as Air Tanzania and KLM Royal Dutch have daily flights out of Amsterdam. Kenya Airways, Ethiopia Airlines, Gulf Air and Emirates Airline also go to Tanzania. 

Visa:
A visa is required to enter Tanzania. Also, visas can be bought on arrival at all international airports and overland borders.

Insurance: Tafrica Safaris does not offer travel insurance, but it may be purchased with your airline tickets.

Money: Major foreign currencies are accepted as well as travelers checks. These are convertible at banks and bureaus de change. Credit cards are not widely accepted and carry poor exchange rates.

Tipping: Not obligatory, but a tip for exceptional service will be appreciated

Health: Have a vaccination consultation before your trip. Yellow fever vaccinations are no longer mandatory. Malaria is endemic, and is preventable with medication. Bring prescription medications with you.

Tanzania facts
